Known in Arabic as “Balattat El Massiach” and in Hebrew as “Shulchan Yeshu” (Table of Jesus). This ancient, impressive church, belonging to the Franciscan Order, is located in the Old City and is no longer in use. From the seventeenth century, it became very popular among pilgrims because of its large stone table reputed to be the one at which Jesus and his students dined. A similar tradition identifies the table as being in St. Peter’s Church on the shores of Lake Tiberias. For this reason, there are two Mensa Christi churches in Israel. more
